Chris Ann’s parents opened a resale store in Genoa City in 1982. Chris Ann watched as her parents helped people in the community during a recession that hurt many. It was her dream that one day she would provide assistance to those in need.
Gary and Chris Ann started taking donations and helping people out of their garage in 2009. Word traveled quickly that these were the people to contact if you were in need. They provided clothing, furniture, appliances, toys, and much more to families living in the south eastern wisconsin area. If you needed it, and they didn’t have it, they looked and asked until they found what was in need.
Eventually the garage was not enough space. September 13, 2010 Chris Ann’s Resale was opened in Pell Lake. Many volunteers offered their time and worked diligently to make this dream come true. The move gave the family 1100 square feet of space. Every bit of it was used to provide an affordable place for the community to shop. Chris Ann’s was able to team up with local organizations to provide even more help. Due to circumstances out of their control, Chris Ann’s closed in December of 2011.
The next months were filled with thinking, research, and unending prayer. God gave an answer to those prayers. On May 18, 2012, Chris Ann’s Resale was reopened in Lake Geneva. Chris Ann’s now had 8000 square feet of space. That space needed to be filled. Many prayers were said and slowly donations started coming in. And then they flooded in. The dream of assisting those in need was coming true once again.
Up to this point Chris Ann’s was operating through the generosity of volunteers. The only payment received was the fulfillment of helping others. Finally, on September 1, 2013, Chris Ann’s was able to hire on their first employees. After years of selflessly giving their service, Chris Ann’s was able to give an income to some of the volunteers. Chris Ann’s still relies heavily on volunteers, however, looks forward to being able to add more volunteers to the payroll. Chris Ann’s would like to help as many people as God will allow.
On January 1st, 2016 Chris Ann’s was approved for our 501©3 non-profit under the name Chris Ann’s helping Hands, Inc.
On August 31, 2019 Chris ann's helping hands' physical location was again closed due to the sale of the building.
